# Delete your account

> What to do before you delete your Playcode account, how to delete it in Settings, and what is removed at once, after 30 days, and never.

You delete your account yourself, in **Settings**, **Profile**. The projects of your Personal workspace are deleted at once, and its plan stops renewing. Playcode erases the rest of your personal data once the account has been deleted for more than 30 days. You cannot undo it.

## Do it yourself

### Before you delete

1. Decide when the plan of your Personal workspace should end. Deleting the account stops its renewals, and the plan stays until the end of the period you paid for. To end it today instead, end it first: see [Change or cancel your plan](/docs/account-and-billing/change-or-cancel-your-plan). Either way, the rest of the period is not refunded.
2. Save copies of the code and files you want to keep.
3. If your Personal workspace holds a domain bought at Playcode, move it to another workspace or transfer it away. While a domain is registered there, Playcode does not erase the account, and the domain keeps renewing on the card while its **Auto-renew** is on. See [Domain renewals and fees](/docs/publish/renewals-and-fees).
4. If you are the only Admin of a team workspace, make another member an Admin, or delete that workspace. Until then, Playcode does not erase the account. See [Workspaces, members and roles](/docs/build/workspaces-members-and-roles).
5. If a published site must go offline, unpublish it now: see [Publish a website](/docs/publish/publish-a-website).

### Delete the account

1. Open **Settings**, then **Profile** under **You**.
2. Under **Danger zone**, choose **Delete account**.
3. In "Delete your account", type `DELETE` and choose **Delete account**. Only you can do this step; the agent cannot delete an account. If your Personal workspace has a plan, the window says until when it stays: "Your plan will not renew: it stays active until" the date, "then ends."
4. If more than 15 minutes have passed since you signed in, "Confirm it's you" opens. Type the code Playcode sends to your email, and choose **Confirm**.
5. The app says "Account deleted successfully." and signs you out.

> [!WARNING]
> There is no way back. Signing in again with the same address creates a new, empty account.

## What is removed, and when

| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| At once | The plan of your Personal workspace stops renewing: it stays until the end of the period you paid for, then ends, and auto-recharge turns off when it ends. The projects of your Personal workspace are deleted, with their Cloud computers, code history and uploaded files. You are signed out |
| After 30 days | Playcode erases the account: your name, email, sign-in links and devices; your chats, messages, attachments and memory records, also in team projects; your Personal workspace and its billing details. It cancels whatever is left of the Personal workspace's plan without a refund, and deletes its customer record at Stripe. Credits left in it, and affiliate commission not yet paid out, are lost |
| Not touched | Projects you made in a team workspace stay with that team. Team workspaces and their plans stay as they are; only your membership goes, at the erasure |
| Kept for the law | Stripe keeps invoices and payments, as tax law requires. Playcode keeps cost and payment records, without your name |
| Expires on its own | Logs, 30 days after they were written. Backups, about a month after they were made |

A job runs once a day and erases the accounts deleted more than 30 days ago, the oldest first.

## If it doesn't work

### The Delete account button in the window stays grey

Type `DELETE` exactly, in capital letters.

### "Failed to delete account. Please try again."

Nothing was deleted. Playcode stops the plan's renewals first, and when Stripe does not answer, it keeps the account as it was rather than delete an account that would go on renewing. Try again. If it still fails, [get help from a person](/docs/help/get-help-from-a-person).

### "That code is not right. Check the email and try again."

Use the code from the latest "Confirm it's you" email, or choose **Send a new code**.

### You want a person to erase your data

You can also ask the Playcode team to erase your account: [get help from a person](/docs/help/get-help-from-a-person).

## Limits

- Deletion cannot be undone, and it is not an export. Keep copies of what you need first.
- Deleting the account stops your plan from renewing, but does not end it at once: it stays until the end of the period you paid for. Team workspaces and their plans are not touched.
- A domain bought at Playcode, or being the only Admin of a team workspace, holds the erasure until you deal with it.
- The Terms of Service, section 12: "Upon deletion, your account and associated data may be permanently removed, subject to technical and legal requirements."
