# What a downgrade changes

> What a workspace keeps and loses when it moves from Max to Pro, or from a paid plan to Free - credits, projects, Cloud apps, domains, uploads.

A downgrade takes away the paid features the smaller plan does not have. It deletes no project and removes no credits.

## When it happens

| Change | When it takes effect |
|---|---|
| Max to a smaller Max size, or to Pro | When Stripe confirms the change you made in the billing portal |
| A paid plan to Free | At the end of the period you paid for, after you cancel. At once if you chose **Cancel immediately** |

See [Change or cancel your plan](/docs/account-and-billing/change-or-cancel-your-plan) for the steps.

## Max to Pro

| What | After the change |
|---|---|
| Credits | The credits you have stay. Each renewal adds 100 |
| Cloud apps | Up to 3 per workspace. The apps you have keep running, but you cannot add one while the workspace is at or over the limit |
| Computers | A production computer on the default size moves to Pro's default size; a size you chose yourself stays. A development computer moves to Pro's size the next time it starts. Disks never shrink |
| Cloud traffic included | 100 GB a month instead of 1,000 GB a month. Traffic past it costs credits |
| Email your app delivers | Pro's included amount each billing cycle |

The sizes and amounts of each plan are in [Plans](/docs/account-and-billing/plans).

## A paid plan to Free

| What | On Free |
|---|---|
| Credits | Not removed, and they keep their expiry dates. No monthly credits are added |
| Build quality | **Economy** only |
| Images, video, music, voice and search research | The agent no longer makes them |
| Projects | All stay. A workspace with 3 or more saved projects cannot save a new one |
| Private projects | They stay private. You can still make a project private on Free: see [Make a project private](/docs/build/make-a-project-private) |
| Code download | Not available for the workspace's static sites |
| Static sites, Cloud apps and domains | See [When a subscription ends](/docs/publish/when-a-subscription-ends): static sites stay online with a banner, Cloud apps are stopped with their data kept, domains stay yours |
| Uploads | Your upload storage drops from 1 GB to 4 MB, unless another workspace you belong to has Pro or Max. Files you uploaded stay; new uploads are refused while the storage is full |
| Members | They stay. Every plan allows 25 per workspace |
| Top-ups, spending controls, the billing portal | **Billing & plans** no longer shows them |
| Auto-recharge | Playcode turns it off when the plan ends, so the card is not charged for credits after that. See [Top-ups and auto-recharge](/docs/account-and-billing/top-ups-and-auto-recharge) |

## What a downgrade never does

- It deletes no project, file, database or chat.
- It removes no credits, and it refunds nothing for the period you paid.

To get the paid features back, buy a plan again in **Settings**, **Billing & plans**. A Cloud app that was stopped does not start again by itself: see [When a subscription ends](/docs/publish/when-a-subscription-ends).
