# Attach files and pictures

> Give the agent screenshots, documents, spreadsheets, videos and archives in the chat - what it can read in each kind of file, and the size limits.

Attach a file to a chat message and the agent gets it with your request: it looks at pictures, reads documents and spreadsheets, and can put any file into your project. One message takes up to 10 attachments.

## Do it yourself

1. In the message box, choose the plus button (**Attach**).
2. Choose **Add Images** ("AI can see and analyze images"), **Add Files** ("Any file type. AI reads text and code.") or **Add Videos** ("Use on your site. AI won't watch them."), then pick the files. You can also drag files onto the chat, or paste a picture or a screenshot into the message box.
3. Wait for the upload. Each file shows a card with its name and a progress bar. If an upload fails, the card shows a warning sign and the app says why.
4. Write what the agent should do with the files, like "Use this logo in the header" or "Make a price table from this spreadsheet", and send the message.

What the agent does with each kind of file:

| File | What the agent gets | Size limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pictures: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF | It looks at the picture | 10 MB |
| PDF | It reads the pages, up to 100 pages. Some models cannot open PDFs: see [Models and modes](/docs/build/models-and-modes) | 10 MB |
| Text, code and CSV files | It reads the text, up to 10 MB of it. In a Cloud app it can process a larger file on the project's computer | 150 MB |
| Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx) | It reads the text and the sheets, up to 10 MB | 150 MB |
| PowerPoint, OpenDocument and old Office files (.doc, .xls) | It cannot read them. Save them as .docx, .xlsx or PDF first | 150 MB |
| Videos: MP4, WebM, MOV | A link it can use on your site. It does not watch a video the way it looks at a picture; it can get a text description of a video up to 18 MB | 150 MB |
| Archives: .zip, .tar, .tar.gz | In a Cloud app, it unpacks them on the project's computer. In a static site, it cannot open them | 150 MB |
| Any other file | A link it can put into your project | 150 MB |

To use a file on your site, say so in the message: the agent copies it into the project.

## If it doesn't work

### "File too large. Maximum size is 10MB."

Pictures and PDFs can be 10 MB at most; other files 150 MB. Make the picture smaller, or send the pages you need as screenshots.

### "Maximum 10 attachments per message."

Send the rest in a second message.

### "Your storage is full, so ... was not uploaded."

Every file you attach counts toward your account's storage: 4 MB on the Free plan, and 1 GB when one of your workspaces has a paid plan. On the Free plan, the app offers an upgrade; on a paid plan, it says "Contact support to get more space." See [Get help from a person](/docs/help/get-help-from-a-person).

### "... is not an image this browser can open."

Save the picture as JPEG, PNG or WebP, then attach it again.

### "... could not be read from your device."

The file is in a synced folder (OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox) that has not finished syncing. Wait for it to sync, then attach it again.

### "Your message was not sent because ... did not upload."

Remove the file that failed or attach it again, then send.

### The agent says it cannot see a PDF

The model cannot open PDFs, or the PDF has more than 100 pages or a password. Send screenshots of the pages you mean, or copy the text into the message.

## Limits

- Up to 10 attachments per message. Pictures and PDFs up to 10 MB each, other files up to 150 MB each.
- Attached files count toward your storage: 4 MB on the Free plan, 1 GB with a paid plan in any of your workspaces.
- With some models, the agent sees only the newest 10 or 19 pictures and PDFs of a long chat. Older ones stay in the chat as links it can open.
- A file you attach before you sign in uploads after you sign in.
- Text you paste that is longer than 16,000 characters becomes a separate card, up to 5 per message.
- An attached file is stored by Playcode, not in your project's files, until the agent copies it into the project.
