Playcode Classic
The free code playgrounds and compilers - run code in the browser, add npm packages, serve static files, and set build and editor options.
Playcode began in 2016 as a browser coding environment. Its free code tools, the compilers, playgrounds and editors, are now called Playcode Classic. Playcode today is an AI platform for building and running websites and apps.
A playground opens Playcode's browser editor: your files, a live preview and a console, with nothing to install. JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML and CSS run in the preview, with React, Vue, Svelte and Solid. Python, C, C++, Go and SQL also run in your browser, and show their output in the editor. The editor has the agent's chat too, so you can write the code yourself or ask the agent.
You can start without an account. To save a project, you sign in; a workspace on the Free plan keeps up to 3 saved projects.
These pages cover the browser editor. A Cloud app works differently: it has its own computer and a terminal. See Browser and Cloud projects. Every Classic tool is listed at playcode.io/playgrounds.
Playgrounds
- Run codeHow code runs in the browser editor - automatic runs, Start Preview, Stop and Reload, running one file, other languages, and loop protection.
- Add npm packagesAdd an npm package to a browser project from the NPM PACKAGES list, by importing it, or in package.json - and remove one.
- The public folderFiles in /public are served at your site's root as they are - favicon, robots.txt, downloads, files your code fetches - in the preview and when published.
- Bundle configurationHow playcode.config.json sets the browser editor's build - minify, keep names, tree shaking, loop protection, the language and the Solid preset.
- SPA modeWhat SPA mode does in the preview and on the published site, when to turn it on or off, and how links to other pages behave.
Editor
- Editor preferencesThe code editor's settings in Settings, Editor - font and tab size, line numbers, wrapping, formatting, code assist, Vim keys and the preview.
- Turn off automatic runsStop the preview from rebuilding after every change with Live reload, make it wait longer with Live view delay, or keep a project from running when it opens.
