Domain renewals and fees

A domain bought at Playcode renews for one year at a time on the workspace's saved card, 30 days before it expires, while auto-renew is on. Domain charges never use credits.

Ask the agent

Check when example.com renews and turn on auto-renew.

It reads the renewal date and price and switches auto-renew; card changes stay with you.

Fees

#

Prices are in US dollars for one year.

.io $44.99 $77.99 $77.99 $250.00

Playcode charges no late fee: renewing after expiry costs the same as renewing on time. The restore fee is the registry's. It is charged on top of the renewal once a domain is in redemption.

Charges

#
Charge When How much
Registration When you buy Register in the table. The confirmation screen shows it before you pay

Where you see the price

#
Place What it shows
Search results The first-year price, and the price of every year after it
Confirmation screen Price, First renewal date, and the date the renewal is charged
Settings, Domains, the list Each domain's renewal date and price
Settings, Domains, the domain's page Under Renewal: the yearly price and the renewal date

Auto-renew

#
State What happens
On (the default) Playcode charges the card 30 days before expiry. If the charge fails, it tries again every hour, and the domain shows Renewal failed with Update card
Off The page shows the expiry date: "renew before then or the domain lapses." To renew, turn Auto-renew on before the expiry date. Inside the last 30 days, Playcode charges at its next hourly check

Notices

#
Notice When
Renewal reminders to the registrant email, from support@playcode.io About one month and about one week before expiry, and within five days after expiry if the domain was not renewed, as ICANN's Expired Registration Recovery Policy requires for generic endings like .com
Registrant email confirmation After a registration, if those owner details were never confirmed. Confirm within 15 days, or the registry suspends the domain

If a domain expires

#
Stage What it means
Expired The domain stops working: the site and email on it go down. For a period the registry sets for each ending, it can still be renewed
Redemption The registry deletes the domain. It can only be restored, for an extra fee
Released Anyone can register the name

Renewing after expiry and restoring are not in the app. If a domain you need has expired, ask a person at once.

Moving a domain away

#
Step Where
1. Unlock the domain and get its transfer code Settings, Domains, the domain's page: Unlock & get transfer code, then Unlock & reveal code, then Copy
2. Start the transfer At the new registrar, with the code. The domain keeps serving until the move completes

Anyone who holds the code can move the domain, so keep it private. A name registered or moved in the last 60 days cannot move: that is a registry rule. The agent cannot reveal a transfer code; only you can, on the domain's page.

Who the registrar is

#

Playcode sells domains as a reseller. The sponsoring registrar of record is Tucows Domains Inc. (OpenSRS), and registrations follow ICANN policy. See ICANN's Registrants' Benefits and Responsibilities.
