Playcode Classic

Python Playground

This Python playground is a Python sandbox online, in your browser: your code runs inside the page, with nothing to install and no access to your files. Imports work: numpy, pandas, matplotlib and scikit-learn load when you import them. Sign in to save your code and share a link. It’s part of Playcode Classic, Playcode’s free code tools.

Free. No account needed to start.

In a playground ball pit sorted into neat coloured stripes like a table, Play sets the last ball in place while a student on the edge looks up from her laptop, which shows the same table and a bar chart.

A sandbox where imports work

The moment your code imports numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scipy or scikit-learn, it loads. Need something else? Install it from PyPI in the Packages panel.

Packages you install last for the session.

In a playground the student turns the crank of a big gumball machine full of little parcels, and one drops into her hand while Play catches the next.

Draw a chart, see the picture

Call plt.show() and the matplotlib chart appears in the Output panel beside your code. Install Plotly and its charts stay interactive.

The bar chart on the student’s laptop stands in the playground as a climbing frame of bars, and Play waves from the top of the tallest one.

Share a link.

Sign in, save the project, turn its link on in the Share tab and send it.

Work on it together.

Invite someone and edit the same files at once. Each of you runs Python in your own browser. Two people can work in a project on the free plan.

Part of Playcode Classic

Playcode began in 2016 as a browser coding environment. This playground is one of its free code tools, which we now call Playcode Classic.

Playcode today is an AI platform for building and running websites and apps.

Play stands at the open gate of an old playground and presents what lies beyond it: a rocket ready on its launch pad.

Questions people ask

  • What is a Python sandbox?

A place to run Python without installing it or risking your computer. This one runs your code inside your browser’s sandbox, with Python 3.13 and its data libraries.

  • Is this online Python playground free?

Yes. Running code is free and needs no account. Saving and sharing need a free account, which keeps up to three saved projects, public or private; the AI chat uses credits.

  • Can I import modules?

Yes. Import numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scipy or scikit-learn and it loads by itself. Install other packages from PyPI in the Packages panel; one that needs a native build may not install.

  • Which Python version is it?

    Python 3.13 (3.13.2), on Pyodide.

  • Is it safe to run code I found online?

Your code runs inside your browser’s sandbox, so it can’t install programs or read the files on your computer. Treat code from strangers with the usual care.

  • Can I draw charts?

Yes. Charts from matplotlib appear as pictures; Plotly charts stay interactive once installed.

  • Does it support turtle or pygame?

Not yet: there is no drawing window. matplotlib charts work.

  • Can my program read input()?

Not yet. Put the values in your code instead.

  • Can I share my code?

Yes. Sign in and save the project. In its Share tab, set Anyone with the link to Can view, then copy the link.

  • Is this playground part of Playcode?

Yes. This playground is part of Playcode Classic, Playcode’s free code tools. Playcode began in 2016 as a browser coding environment. Today it is an AI platform for building and running websites and apps.
