What the agent remembers

The agent remembers what is written down. In a chat it has the conversation. In every chat it reads the project's files, and it reads the file AGENTS.md at the root of the project on every turn. It keeps no separate notes about you.

Ask the agent

Add to AGENTS.md - always write in British English and never use stock photos.

It writes the rule into AGENTS.md at the root of the project, which the agent reads on every turn of every chat.

In one chat

#

The agent sees the conversation, the files you attached and its own work. When a chat grows past its Context setting, the agent replaces the older messages with a summary and keeps working. Details from early in the chat can drop out of that summary.

Context is in Choose build quality, with High as the default. Open the project menu (☰ and the project name) to see how full the chat is: the bottom shows Context. Past 80%, the app suggests a new chat. See Models and modes.

In a new chat

#

A new chat starts without the earlier conversations. The agent learns the project by reading its files before it changes them, and those files hold everything the earlier chats built.

If something from an earlier chat still matters, say it again, or ask the agent to write it down in AGENTS.md or in the project's docs.

AGENTS.md: rules for every chat

#

A file named AGENTS.md at the root of the project goes into the agent's instructions on every turn of every chat, and into its background tasks too. Use it for rules that always apply: the language and tone of the copy, brand colors, what must never change.

  • Ask the agent to add a rule, or edit the file yourself.
  • A file named CLAUDE.md works the same way. When a project has both, the agent reads AGENTS.md.
  • A change reaches the agent within 1 minute.
  • A file larger than 256 KB is skipped, and the agent sees a notice that it was skipped.

The project's docs (Cloud apps)

#

A Cloud app starts with an AGENTS.md that points to its docs: README.md describes the app's stack, docs/index.md lists every doc, and docs/features/ holds the plans and the history of what was built. As it works, the agent keeps these docs up to date and adds decisions, business notes and marketing notes, so the next chat starts with that context. The build plan you see in the chat as Your plan lives in docs/features/ too.

To read the docs yourself, open Files at the bottom of the left panel.

Memory Records

#

Playcode no longer has Memory Records. The agent stopped reading them in July 2026, and the app no longer offers them in Quick Actions or the menu. Put lasting rules in AGENTS.md instead.

What it does not remember

#
  • Conversations in other chats, unless their content is in the project's files.
  • What you told it in another project.
  • Anything outside Playcode.

The agent can still miss or misread a rule it has. Check the result before you publish.
