Workspaces and teams

A workspace is where projects, people, and billing live together. This guide explains the difference between your Personal workspace and a team workspace, and how to get your whole team building in one place.

Personal vs team workspaces

Every Playcode account starts with a Personal workspace. It is just for you: nobody else can join it, and its projects stay yours until you share one directly.

To work with other people day to day, create a team workspace. It has its own projects, people, and billing - separate from your personal space. Projects created in it are open to every member by default, so the team sees new work without any extra sharing steps.

Rule of thumb: to collaborate on a single project, you don't need a workspace at all - share that project by email instead. To collaborate on everything with the same group, use a team workspace.

Create a workspace

  1. Click the workspace name in the top-left corner to open the workspace menu.
  2. Click Create workspace.
  3. Name it (for example, your company or client name) and click Create.

You can be in as many workspaces as you like - one per company, client, or department - and switch between them from the same menu. Each keeps its own projects, members, and billing.

Invite members

  1. Switch to the team workspace and click Invite in the workspace menu, or open Settings → People & teams.
  2. Under Invite a teammate, enter their email, choose a role (Viewer, Editor, or Admin), and click Invite.
  3. They receive an email with a join link. If they don't have a Playcode account yet, the link walks them through creating one; then they click Join workspace.

Sent invitations live in the Invitations tab of the People page. Each shows when it expires (invitations last 7 days). From there you can Copy invite link to deliver the link yourself, Resend to issue a fresh link (the previous one stops working), or Revoke to cancel it.

Note: your Personal workspace is just for you, so its Invite button routes you to a team workspace instead - it will offer to create one if you don't have any. To collaborate on a single project, share that project rather than inviting someone into a workspace.

What members can see

Projects created in a team workspace are open to every member by default: the project's Access list shows Everyone at [workspace name] set to Can edit. You can tighten any project from its Share tab:

  • Can view - members can open it but not change it.
  • No access - the project becomes invited-only. Only its owner and explicitly invited people or teams can open it, even though it lives in the team workspace.

Members never see each other's Personal workspaces or the projects in them.

Workspace roles

  • Viewer - can open the workspace's team projects, read-only.
  • Editor - can create projects and edit the workspace's team projects.
  • Admin - can also manage members, teams, billing, and workspace settings.

You set the role when inviting and can change it any time from the People page. For the full capability breakdown, see Roles and permissions.

Teams: grant access to a group at once

Inside a workspace you can organize members into teams (Design, Engineering, Client X). A team is a shortcut for granting access to many people in one step:

  1. In Settings → People & teams, open the Teams tab, click Create a team, and add members with Add a member....
  2. Grant the team access where you need it: the team's Workspace access selector covers the whole workspace, and a project's Share tab has Add a team... for a single project.

Everyone in the team gets the granted role, and people added to the team later inherit it automatically. In a project's People list, team members appear grouped under via [team name].

Billing

Each workspace has its own subscription and AI credits, and work done in its projects is billed to that workspace - not to individual members.

Bring your existing projects

Creating a workspace does not move anything automatically - projects you built earlier stay in your Personal workspace, and you don't have to recreate them. Right-click a project card and choose Move to workspace; its chats, data, and history travel with it. Details: Move a project to another workspace.
